Specialties:
I specialize in working with parents and parental figures who are struggling to develop or sustain a sense of identity, self-fulfillment, self-efficacy, confidence, or self-worth. As important and meaningful as parenthood is, it can sometimes feel at odds with the desire to pursue other internal, individualized goals, especially when other major life transitions such as remarriage, career changes, relocation, and romantic relationships become a part of things that must be addressed and considered.
These major life events may trigger parenting struggles, or vice versa. It may be guilt- or shame-provoking to balance or even find time to give to the desires you have for self-empowerment. I work with clients to recognize and maximize their existing strengths as well as to identify and develop new ones; I help clients integrate and honor their many values so they can appreciate all aspects of who they are.
In our sessions, we will sort through conflicted thoughts and work toward deciphering what your emotions may be conveying, as well as the meaning behind competing priorities. We will also identify what may be standing in the way of a thriving relationship with yourself and others. These relationships may feel strained by parenthood or parent-child relationships.
I assist parents, particularly mothers, to recognize what is in their control, find balance that is aligned with what feels most meaningful, and manage challenges in a way that feels less overwhelming so they can engage in responsibilities while maintaining their own identity.
Clinical Style and Theoretical Orientation:
I take a collaborative approach to supporting parents and parental figures in their self-discovery journey. I help clients explore how their past experiences, especially those in early childhood, affect how they feel about being a parent and caring for themselves simultaneously. In this process, I can help bring thoughts that are under the surface to light, fostering deeper self-understanding and lasting change.
My areas of focus include anxiety, depression, new parents, grief around your previous life, time management, life transitions, and sleep challenges.
My Mental Health First Aid Training allows me to help parents and parental figures understand the signs and symptoms of mental health disorders so that they feel more in control and knowledgeable about what they may be experiencing. Through Motivational Interviewing, I am able to help clients find their own reasons and need to make changes in their lives.
