Camila was born and raised in the Dominican Republic; she moved to New York at the age of 15. Camila currently resides in New Jersey, but will always have a special place in her heart for NYC. Camila’s experience as a Dominican immigrant and naturalized American has has exposed her to many cultures; she feels humbled by the cultures she has been exposed to and grew up with, which helps her acknowledge and celebrate diversity and the integration of cultures over assimilation. Camila speaks fluent Spanish; she is happy to conduct therapy sessions in Spanish and English.
Camila holds a bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in Justice and Families from Montclair State University. Camila is a graduate of New York University; she has a Masters Degree in Social Work.
Camila’s desire to help others has afforded her many opportunities. She worked as a medical preventive Case planner at Cardinal McCloskey Community Services in the Bronx, NY.
Camila provided group therapy at West Bergen Mental Healthcare, in Ramsey, NJ. She also provided psychotherapy at Rapid Psychotherapy and the family service league community mental health agency.
Camila’s professional experience afforded the ability to work with adults and children. Her work with adults led her to treat clients experiencing depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, mood regulation, interpersonal conflict, PTSD, Autism and ADHD.
Camila uses a creative therapeutic style; she integrates different approaches, including Art, CBT, DBT, Psychodrama, Actions Methods, and others. Camila also follows a culturally and trauma-informed approach where clients’ narratives are listened to and validated. Clients are encouraged to be holistically aware of themselves by being conscious of their thoughts, emotions, and sensations. Additionally, Camila works with clients to view themselves through a non-judgmental lense, encouraging them to practice patience while working toward their goals. Camila does this by encouraging clients to tap into their inner strength, acknowledge their needs and fostering autonomy which lead them to be the best version of themselves.
Camila would like to continue her studies of therapeutic treatments such as DBT, CBT, Somatic Therapy, Psychodrama, and Emotion Focused Therapy.
Camila enjoys outdoor activities, exploring new places with her closest friends. She is a fan of 90s and early 2000s movies. Camila also enjoys discovering and listening to new music. Camila likes to play with her dog, exercise, and speak to her support system; Camila is also a fan of organization.
Camila truly loves living in the tri-state area. Camila feels she can enjoy more than two worlds due to its diversity. There are infinite things and places to explore and learn about. Camila makes sure to learn about and advocate for human rights via different platforms such as online and in person. Camila has co-organized community food, clothing, and toy drives to give back to the community.
